Finding the perfect game for someone is hard. People and their tastes are complex. We offer a large catalouge of games we have made to be fun for all kinds of people, tastes, and personalities. The "fun" of games is baked into a handful of attributes that we have described for you below. We have also assigned a value to each of our games for these attributes so you can play around with the sliders below and we'll tell you which game we think matches your tastes best! Or, the tastes of someone you are buying for ;)
Chance and strategy are on opposite ends of a spectrum from one another. Strategy involves the player being responsible for the outcome of the game whereas chance is left to... well, chance and it doesn't matter what the player does.
For this value, we assign a game that is entirely chance based a value of 0 and a game that has no elements of chance a value of 10.
Here are some comparisons of how some well known games (but not our games) would stack up in our estimation:
Monopoly would be a value of 8. Mostly strategy though the dice rolling adds a strong element of chance.
Rock-paper-scissors would be a 5. Some strategy can be employed based on the players last move, but in the end, you have a 33% chance or winning, a 33% chance of tieing, and a 33% of losing.
Go fish would be a 2. There is some strategy in asking for letters that have not been matched yet, but in the end, how you shuffle the deck and the cards you draw determines how the game goes.
Resource Management involves keeping careful track of consumables in a game, wether it be money, or cards, or pieces. Most games have some amount of resource management but sometimes it is more a measure of how long the game will last vs. something that you can manage to your strategic advantage.
For this value, we assign a game that has no resource management at all a value of 0 and a game that is entirely about resource management a value of 10.
Here are some comparisons of how some well known games (but not our games) would stack up in our estimation:
Monopoly would be a value of 7. Your resouces being the properties you own, the money in your account, and the remaining hotels and houses. You must use/consume all these wisely to achieve victory, though there aren't too many resources to keep track of.
Settlers of Catan would be a 9 as utlimate victory ultimatly lies in how you spend you resources like gold, brick, wheat, etc. There is a lot more resources to manage in this game compared to Monopoly.
Ticket to Ride would be a two. The number of train cars you have remaining at the end of a turn determines when the game will end, so you do need to keep an eye on them though since you cannot trade for more trains or build more trains, this would rank pretty low on the scale.
