The game comes with 8 recipe cards:
All the recipes are real recipes and can be baked with real ingredients following the directions on the recipe card and with supervision by an adult.
The real measurements are on the recipes so that you can bake them at home. However, playing the game, you only need to find the ingredient card for your ingredient, regardless of how much of the ingredient is listed. So if your recipe calls for 2 large eggs, you only need 1 "Eggs" card in game. If is calls for 2 cups of flour, you only need the "Flour" card.
To start the game, each player will be given one recipe. You can chose a recipe or be given one at random, it doesn't affect the play of the game.
The game includes 19 different ingredients:
There are enough ingredients in the game that all 8 recipes can be completed. This ensures that one player doesn't block another from being able to win the game by taking an ingredient they need.
Some recipes call for garnishes that are more to taste such as nuts, raisins, and coconut. When you are baking, you will need these real ingredients to taste. When you are playing, the "Extras" card covers all these items.
Things like "Mixing Utensils" and "Rise Time" are not real ingredients but when playing the game, if they are listed on your recipe, you need to collect them just like the other "food" ingredients.
All the ingredients will be placed face down in a pile. All players go around in a circle taking their turn. On your turn, you can either draw one card from the top of this pile or you can draw one from the top of the discard pile. If you draw an ingredient you do not need because you already got it or it is not listed on your recipe, you set that ingredient in the discard pile facing up. The advantage of the discard pile is that you know what you are picking up. If you draw an ingredient you do not have but is list on your recipe, you can keep it.
There are 4 Bake Time cards in the game. This is not an ingredient because you cannot keep it. If you draw this card but you do not have all the ingredients listed on your recipe, then you have to disgard it. However, if you draw this card (either from the new ingredients pile or from the discard pile) then you win the game!
The game also includes 5 different "Oops!" cards:
If you draw an oops card from the new ingredients pile, you lose the ingredient shown on the oops card if you have already collected it. Both your lost ingredient and the oops card go into the discard pile and your turn is over.
You now need to re-collect the ingredient you lost in order to complete your recipe.
